Budget Justification

Senior Personnel

We are requesting funds to support one quarter of the salary for Mr. Nicholson and Mr. Blair for the first year of the proposal. This time will be used to develop our assessment program and the math courses containing the CCP modules.

Other Personnel

This project includes the salary for the lab coordinator for 40 hours a week for 40 weeks a year for two years, (the duration of the grant).
It also includes support for student tutors for 40 hours a week for 40 weeks a year for two years.

Fringe Benefits

Benefits including FICA, retirement, and insurance , calculated at 15 % of salary.

Equipment

This grant will be matched by Central Alabama Community College. With the funds from this grant we will purchase the following:

10 Dell Latitude C840 Laptop computers, including carrying case $1912
22 Dell OptiPlex GX260 Small Minitower: $1093 each
32 license for MatLab
32 license for Mathcad
1 multimedia projector
2 Laser printers for the math lab

The laptops with the 15 inch screens were chosen because of the need to have two windows open simultaneously to use the CCP modules.

Travel

Other Direct Cost

We are requesting funds for general materials and supplies for the lab.

We are requesting funds for the advisory committee to travel to CACC for the spring 2004 meeting. We are estimating this trip to last one day.

Advisory committee travel to Alexander City.
Round trip plane fare from Durham, North Carolina to Birmingham at $200
Lodging in Alexander City for out of state member at $50 per night for 2 nights
Car rental for out of state member for $50 per day for 2 days
Per diem for in state members at $50 each

Indirect Costs

This amounts to 8% of the total cost of the requested NSF budget.

Not in this Budget

Funds for the workshop planned for the summer of 2004 is not in this budget because that is going to be a whole project within itself. We plan to solidify plans for the workshop once we have some experience with the lab activities and solicit funds from various sources at that time.

Funds required for the principal investigators of this proposal to attend workshops will be met by CACC.
