The first three questions refer to the material you were to read in preparation for the lesson. Questions one and two require you to write a three or four sentence response. Number three is a multiple choice question. Click in the appropriate circle. Questions 4 is your opportunity to suggest what we should emphasize today and how.

1) A post is driven into the ground and a heavy ball is hung from it in three different ways shown as A, B, and C in the picture above. The ball plumb line is 3 meters from the foot of the post in all three cases. Compare the torques exerted by the weight of the ball on the post (calculated with respect to the base of the post).

2) A food server is holding a 2 kg food tray as shown. Estimate the torque with respect to an axis through his shoulder exerted by the weight of the tray.

3) Two solid discs are linked with a belt. The diameter of the larger disc is twice the diameter of the small disc. If the small disc is rotating at 500 revolutions per minute (rpm), what is the rotational speed of the larger disc? Express your answer in rpm and in radians per second.

4. Below is a space for your thoughts, including general comments about today's assignment (what seemed impossible, what reading didn't make sense, what we should spend class time on, what was "cool", etc.):
