Explain how you would determine the amount of energy needed to transfer to a known mass of a known substance to raise it's temperature by a given amount delta T.
If temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the molecules in a sample, and the energy required to raise the temperature of a sample is Q = mc delta T, then how much total kinetic energy does a 50 g block of lead have at room temperature T = 22 degrees ?
Both cups of water started out at room temperature. Which cup required the greatest amount of energy to raise its temperature to that indicated in the picture ?
