Notes from the meeting
Nov. 09 Friday Evening:
Supper, oveview of new equipment -
PASCO'S Alen Brown and Brett Scachett
PASCO has a new remote sensing series of equipment.
Vernier's Dave and Christine Vernier
David presented several of their items and announced some new items coming up this week on their website.
After meeting discussion in Vernier's room, really great.
Beer, wine coolers, pretzels, and taco chips,
Brett played Dave's guitar for intertainment. Some Eric Clapton type stuff. He's good!
Curt would have been proud of us.
Nov. 10, 2001
8 - 10 :30 PASCO workshop
Alen and Brett showed us several experiments that can be done with their equipment. Basically Alen showed us the new remote devices and Brett showed us some interesting experiments with standard equipment.
We had time to try our hand at some experiments using their RCL board.
We also had an opportunity to try some sound experiments.
Some really neat stuff.
10:30-1 Vernier workshop.
We did several experiments from the Physics with Computers lab manual.
There's a great impulse lab in Physics with Computers.
Lots of hands on play time. Great Fun!
I focused on how to use the LabPro as a remote device.
Chris Wozny gave me a great idea of using the force prob and motion detector monitoring a pasco cart attached to a spring.
Things you can get off Vernier's Website.

Ali Yazdi
Ali showed us more of his problems from
industry
He gave us the following problem. Given an arbitrary
quadralateral:
divide each side into three equal parts,
connect these points with lines,
the intersections of these lines forms a quadralateral
Prove that it is a parallelogram
Prove the diagonals of this parallelogram intersect at the center of
mass of the original quadrilateral.
If we can't get it by the spring meeting he said he'd give us the answer then. By the way, speaking of the spring meeting, it is going to be at the Heritage Conference Center in Childersburg, Alabama on one of the following dates. March 8, 15, April 5, 12, or 19. We need your input on these dates. However, we do have to get a date when it is available, it has a pretty tight schedule. It often gets dates booked several months in advance. Last year we had it March 2 - 3, so we'll probably have to have it somewhere around that date this year.
Chris Wozny
Presents his invitation to think about a way to
grade conceptual exercises?
suppose this problem is given to a physics class- the window washer's
problem.
f = 5N
M= 3 kg
a = ? and why isn't the answer 15?
· F = ma
We discussed all this, you had to be there.
Ali suggests we invite an expert in assessment to speak at the spring meeting.
Martin says he's heard a lot about this and has misgivings about it.
Martin Okafor
Discussed his online trigbased physics

he got it from physics construction and ??( I missed this part of the discussion)
Standard Deviants (Something Chris Wozny brought up.)
get it from teachers resource video catalog.
