Center of Mass and Conservation of Momentum

Impulse and conservation of momentum

Throw eggs at a sheet. (make sure to fold up the bottom and fasten it with safety pins to catch eggs in sheet.

Do the flip coins at a stack of coins and discuss conservation of momentum.

Take two pasco carts and weight one down and have collisions
Turning world inside out

pg 27. Swinging two balls into a standing block to see which will knock it over.
Pg 60: Energy and conservation of momentum-From a short distance drop a ball on top of a larger ball. The smaller ball rebounds to nearly nine times its original height.
pg 63: Turn half of a racquet ball inside out and drop it from a low height. How far does it rebound?
pg 69: Cons of angular momentum- Because of its low friction, pouring sand into the tire while it is spinning allows you to test the conservation of angular momentum.

Center of Mass and Equilibrium

Place a book on three fingers and then bring them slowly together. They converge on the balance point
Place a meterstick on two fingers and bring them together.

333 Sci Tricks & Exp Pg 184 Balance the ruler & hammer tied together by a string. Balance meter stick by hanging it down and by holding in hand.

Phy For Every Kid Pg 93-
Make a ball of clay about the size of a large marble. Insert the tip of a fork into the ball. Insert the tip of a second fork at about a 45 degree angle from the first fork. Insert the pointed end of a toothpick in the clay between the forks. Place the end of the toothpick on the edge of the glass. Move it further over the glass until the forks balance. Discuss center of gravity.
