Like most people, I do not know much about politics.
Whether right or wrong, like most people, I lay the blame,
not upon my own stupidity, but upon a vague group of
"politicians" whom I feel have made politics unnecessarily
complicated for their own benefit. Regardless of who is to
blame, that most average Americans feel this way is a fact
that is detrimental to the political well being of this
nation, and some positive efforts need to be made to
rectify the situation. Here are the things that I believe
will help and why. As already mentioned, I intend to
insist that laws are as simple and straight forward as
possible. Here are some other topics I would like to
address.
2011 update:
Politics in America has become a sport between two
opposing teams, democrats and republicans. For the
last three decades decisions have been made primarily
based upon what is going to make one team win and the
other lose. OBama has forwarded some great plans,
only to have them killed by the republicans to keep the
democrats from looking like winners. There have
even been cases recently where repubilcan legislators
have voted against bills they themselves wrote to keep
the democrats from achieving success of any kind.
I don't know that the democrats are behaving any
better. It seems to me that the only way out of
this is for us to elect independent candidates where
ever possible in the next election, especially for
president. Which is one reason I plan to run as an
independent candidate, the other being that I am
currently profoundly ashamed of my party. I've
been a registered republican since I first registered at
21.
TERM LIMITATIONS
Yeah I heard the idea that term limitations violates the individuals rights to choose a leader. But our founding fathers fled a leader-for-life political system, and they built our system to be governed by the people. I do not believe they would have thought it wise for anyone to hold public office for more than ten years. It is true that they did not build term limitations into the Constitution. But they did build in frequent opportunities for change, no doubt assuming that given a choice, many people would volunteer to take part in their own government. They may not have anticipated the ingenuity of those in power to construct survival mechanisms, (can you say "redraw districts"?) and they certainly did not anticipate the "let George do it" mentality that has risen over the last century. I believe that each new administration has a tendency to favor different segments of the economy, and to allow one group to reign too long is to unbalance the creativity and innovation spawned by the free enterprise system. For example, just about anyone besides a banker would have to agree that every administration since the Reagan Administrations has been overly kind to those in charge of the Saving and Loan industry, (not to mention the oil and automobile industries) at great expense to the general public. I believe that one should view politics not as a profession in which to pursue a career, but as a public service, which he or she should fulfil as quickly as possible and then get back to whatever useful good or service he has to offer the world. In any case, I believe the decision of whether or not to have term limitations should be made by the American people, not the members of the Congress. Hence, the following law should be placed on the ballot for this fall's election.
Political Law #1.
Senators and Congressman shall be limited to two
consecutive terms in office.
Technology has overrun our notions of war. We can no longer tolerate war as a means of fun and profit, anywhere in the world. These may seem like desperate measures, but somebody with clout has to do something, and we are just about the only ones in that category. Hence:
Political Law #2. The United States of America will end diplomatic relations with any nation found selling weapons to anyone for profit.
This next one cannot really be stated as a law yet, its just an idea, but I intend to try to form a consortium of peace-keeping nations that agree to not do business with any nation that is at war with anyone, or that is doing business with any nation that is at war with anyone.
There are a lot of things I intend to get accomplished
during my term as president. It will not take long for
somebody to come up with the question, "where will the
money come from?". That's the wrong approach. If we are
attacked and have to fight for survival, we don't ask
ourselves, "where's the money going to come from?". We ask
ourselves, "what's it going to take, in materials and
actions to win this thing?", and then we scrounge around,
get what we need by whatever means necessary, and do
whatever it takes to win. That's what I've done in my
life, that's what I intend to do in my presidency. It's
not a brilliant new idea. It is the foundation stone upon
which America was built. I simply copied it from my
forefathers. The fact is, most of my programs aren't going
to take a lot of materials. They are going to take a
considerable amount of effort from a lot of people. I'm
not worried about that. This is America, whose trademark
throughout the world is generosity, cooperation and
resourcefulness.
Liberals and
Conservatives
These words have been abused so much people don’t even know what they mean anymore.
For instance, I believe passing laws forcing people to obey Biblical laws is an extremely liberal interpretation of the Bible, considering that even God doesn’t force people to obey his laws. Furthermore, this country was started in the first place by people who wanted religious freedom. Free will is the number one foundation stone of the Bible. I should think a conservative notion would be to create laws that promote a safe, civil and economically prosperous society, and leave religion to the preachers.
I believe allowing publically traded companies to deliberately deceive the public (regulation free) to be a pretty liberal interpretation of the Constitution. I also believe that giving corporations or large companies the same rights and privileges as individual citizens, especially where elections are concerned to be an extremely liberal view of the Constitution.
So why is it that those who believe religious bigots and corporations should be allowed to run the country are called conservatives?
